VideoGet – Download Videos from YouTube and Other Sites
Review by on
There are at least two reasons why you would want to download a video from YouTube or another similar video sharing website. The first one is pretty obvious: perhaps you want to view that video without launching your browser and going to YouTube. If the video is on your computer, you can view it without having to be connected to the web. The second reason I have in mind is this: a video may be taken down. So, if you want to make sure you have access to it, download it to your computer. You can do that with the Nuclear Coffee Software-developed application VideoGet.

Before you can start getting videos off YouTube, you must first get VideoGet off the web and onto your computer. This will take very little time as the download weighs in at a mere 6.4MB. Launch the executable you downloaded, follow the steps presented by the setup wizard and VideoGet will be up and running in no time at all. It must be mentioned here that during the installation process you are asked to choose one of the languages VideoGet supports. Apart from English, it provides support for French, Spanish, Turkish, Romanian and many other languages. It must also be mentioned that you are asked to install an IE plugin and a Firefox plugin. I’m on the latest version of Firefox, Firefox 9.0.1, and upon launching the browser I was informed that the VideoGet plugin is not compatible with Firefox.

As mentioned above, you can use VideoGet to download videos from popular video sharing sites, YouTube and other sites of the sort. VideoGet provides support for a very long list of sites, including some adult sites. If that is a problem, then you need to know that during the installation process you are given the option to disable support for adult websites.

Downloading a video with VideoGet is an incredibly straightforward matter. All you have to do is paste the URL of the video you want to download. Apart from downloading videos from the web, VideoGet can also convert them; it can convert them to AVI, MPG and other formats.

Once you have the URL of the video you want to download, click the plus sign in VideoGet’s interface and paste the URL. Then select the conversion options you are comfortable with, click the video from the application’s main pane and hit the download button (looks like an arrow). VideoGet will then download the video and convert it to the format you specified. Once the download/conversion is complete, you can right click the video and select “Play Video” from the context menu that shows up. Your default media player will launch and you will be able to view the video you downloaded.

The trial version of VideoGet is limited to 20 downloads. Purchase a registered version to get a limitations-free version.

The large number of sites VideoGet supports is amazing and the ease of use is delightful. VideoGet is a properly good application for downloading videos from the web and converting them to another format.

Pros
VideoGet provides support for a long list of languages. The interface is as straightforward as it can get. Support for a long list of sites is provided (you can filter out the adult ones during the installation process). VideoGet can convert videos to AVI, MPG and other formats.

Cons

Trial version has a 20 downloads limitation. The VideoGet Firefox plugin is not compatible with the latest Firefox version (that is 9.0.1 at the time of writing this).
